Github pages were nonfunctional this Wednesday and there was instability noticed on their servers as well. It is claimed to be DDoS attack carried out by hackers on the Github site and it has been down for about an hour before it was restored back.
The GitHub site has been hacked by a hacker by the name Hax Stroke, he is part of the Ghost Squad Hackers. He tweeted and has accepted the responsibility of the attack using the RPCBIND service DDoS amp and reminded it was just a demo.
As a result of the hack Issues, PRs, Dashboard, Projects section on the website were not able to load at all.
Hello @github a little hug from HaxStroke at your website, ^^.

User across the globe witnessed this outage as a result of the hack. Hax Stroke was also responsible for a similar outage last year end when he targeted YouTube.
We are just entering the new year and users across the world have observed the issues while using GitHub.
Github has responded to this with a comment on its website on January 2 16:32 UTC which states – “Resolved – We observed elevated error rates and discovered a capacity issue in one of our databases which impacted Web, API, and Gists. A backlog was cleared and systems returned to normal.”

This is certainly not the first and the last time Github has been down after being hacked. Earlier in October last year, Github was down for an entire day due to failure in its data storage system.
