Last week AT&T launched its first 5G mobile network and the speed results for the same are being made public. According to the user (mwb6d) who owns a Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot on AT&T network in Indianapolis posted on Reddit speed test which show a download speed of 194.88 Mbps and upload speed of 17. 08 Mbps and a ping of 77ms. Later the hotspot was flipped to LTE to run speed test where the results showed a download speed of 187.44Mbps, an upload speed of 8.14Mbps, and a ping of 77ms.
According to the owner of the Netgear hotspot, these tests were run across the street from a rooftop mounted cell site.
On the other hand, though AT&T has launched its 5G network services in December, the coverage is only available in certain parts of the 12 US cities. You can only connect one device to the above mentioned Netgear hotspot and this service is being offered only to select businesses and customers. The service will more widely available possibly by March 2019.
There has been a lot of buzz going around about the 5G connectivity especially for the speeds it will offer. Though the initial speed tests seem to be rather disappointing for people who are looking to for faster speeds and low ping with mobile 5G.
According to PCMag AT&T offers peak speeds of 625 Mbps and uses the advanced LTE technologies that can help boost speeds. As more carried get involved and the 5G network further spread this will improve to what many people expect from 5G.
Certainly, it will be sometime before 5G network hit in India, let wait and hope it won’t take too long though.
