India’s first train engineless train will be introduced from 29 October 2018. The train will run on the tracks and replace the earlier Shatabdi Express. First of its kind to be included in the Indian Railways will be run on Self Propulsion Modular system at speeds of 160 km per hr. The train’s speed is far superior compared to the other trains running in India. It will be named Train 18 and is technically advanced making it reach such high speeds.
The Tain 18 will have 16 coaches attached and will take a lot less time than the earlier Shatabdi Express. The train is built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and took 18 months to build. It cost nearly 100 crores to build a prototype of the train. ICF spokesperson while speaking to PTI said – In the near future this investment is certainly going to benefit us later on, this cost will further depreciate as production increases.
The train will be inaugurated on 29th October and kept outside the factory for 3 to 4 days to carry out inspections. After it will be handed over to the Research Design & Standard Organisation (RDSO) for further examinations. The will also have 2 executive compartments with 52 seats. Whereas the ordinary coaches will have 78 seats.
As we mentioned earlier the train can achieve speeds up to 160 km per hr. Once the new tracks are laid that will suit the speeds of Train 18, it will take at least 15% less time compared to Shatabdi Express. The Train 18 comes with the latest technology like GPS based information system, various lighting systems, automatic doors, and CCTV cameras. Shatabdi Train which was launched back in 1988 which is still running and connects 20 major railway routes which connect to the metro.
