Samsung’s new Virtual Voice Assistant – Bixby is ready to make it the user’s smartphone. Bixby will now be available on Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners in the US today.
Samsung claims Bixby to be complete and contextually aware as compared to the other counterparts like Apple’s Siri or Microsoft’s Cortana. The Bixby feature can be activated either by pressing a dedicated Bixby button on the side or by saying “Hi Bixby”
Bixby is pretty handy once activated via simple voice commands can do various tasks from flicking on the phone’s flashlight, grabbing a screenshot or clicking a selfie. Apart from this, it can do some complex tasks as well like building an album of all the photos taken within the last week, labeling them as “My Photo Collection” and later sharing them on the social media for your friends to see.
Samsung has plans in place to integrate Bixby with other Samsung app when launched. Apart from this even third party apps such as Google Maps, YouTube and Facebook will also be able to integrate with Bixby. The virtual assistant is smart as it uses deep learning, this will make it know your daily routines and get better with time knowing the voice after hearing it over and over.
Samsung S8 and S8+ owners get to experience the first-hand experience of the virtual assistant Bixby. Whereas the rest need not worry they can watch the sample video posted by Samsung which shows Bixby in action. Here we can notice that the virtual assistant responds well to the natural phrases like “what will the weather be like in San Francisco today?” and “create an album called nom nom.”
Time will tell if Bixby is here to stay as it needs to be tested in real world scenarios. None other than the smartphone users can provide an answer to this.
