Reliance Jio Infocomm channel partner confirmed the delivery of around 6 million Jio Phones will start on Sunday and be completed within 15 days.
The spokesperson told PTI, initially the phones will be released in the rural and small town before urban centers start receiving them.
The channel partners clarified saying “The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns.” Though there was no response to queries sent to Reliance Jio.
In a one of a kind offer, the pre-bookings started on August 24 against a refundable deposit of Rs500. Later the customer has to pay Rs1000 at the time of receiving the phone. The entire amount is refundable after three years on returning the handset.
As we mentioned the initially around 6 million handsets will be delivered in 10 to 15 days, but as far as the dates for the later batch for delivery are concerned there is no news. According to Cybermedia Research, 61.8 million handsets were shipped in the second quarter of 2017. JioPhone with the estimated sale of 6 million mobiles will account for 10 percent off Indias total mobile phone market in a quarter.
The Jio users will be provided with free voice calling and also get unlimited data for a month against a payment of Rs153. The JioPhone will also be pre-loaded with Jio apps for messaging and entertainment and the phone can be connected with television set for watching TV using the Jio TV app
