Nikkei Asian Review reported about Huawei plans to introduce a smartphone. The world’s first folding smartphone ready To Introduced for commercial markets. According to analyst and sources in the industry, the folding phone will use a flexible organic EL display manufactured by BOE Technology Group. Further disclosure reveals Huawei’s plan to produce a limited number of these phones, from 20000 to 30000. These phones will be used for demonstration purpose Huawei has tried to emphasize on the fact that it is “World First” foldable phone.
Earlier there were rumors of Samsung Folding Galaxy, which was planned to introduce a few folding models for gaming applications well in advance and then deploy them on a larger scale later. In response to this Huawei, a spokesperson said they too had a similar plan.
Another analyst Jeff Pu from the Yuanta Investment Consulting said that the product will release early in 2019, but the price and release date of Huawei’s folding phones is the is unknown.
The collaboration of Huawei and BOE is a marketing ploy to demonstrate the competence of their technology. Earlier BOE has received a large subsidy from the government and is already the largest display manufacturer. The BOE spokesperson said they are keen to develop next-generation technologies such as quantum dot display and folding OLED. Apart from this, there is also a rumor related to the organic EL shipment of the next iPhone.
