Google launched a four-month training programme for gaming start-ups and developers in Asian countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Indie Games Accelerator program focuses to promote the development technology development of Android games for Asian region’s indie game developers.
Anuj Gulati, Developer Marketing Manager, Google Play, stated in a blog post -“Emerging markets now account for more than 40 percent of game installs on Google Play. Rapid smartphone adoption in these regions presents a new base of engaged gamers that are looking for high-quality mobile gaming experiences,”.
The Indie Games Accelerator program consists of mentorship, training workshops and clinics, and networking sessions in full cooperation with Google for 4 months.
Sami Kizilbash, Developer Relations Program Manager, Google said “There are many passionate gamers in Asia. The talented mobile game developers in the region have a tremendous opportunity to build apps and deliver experiences that entertain, educate and inspire. At Google Play, we are focused on helping local game developers from these markets achieve their full potential and make the most of this opportunity.”
Developers who are interested can apply for the Indie Games Accelerator by 31 July and the result will be declared on 8 August. Those candidates who are selected will team up with the best of Google resources (people, network, insights, and technology).
The developers will get access to Google Cloud Platform credits and invite to the exclusive company and industry events as well as the opportunity to be showcased on Google Play. Apart from this, they will also get two all-expenses-paid gaming boot camps at the tech giant’s Asia-Pacific office in Singapore.
