Apple has filed a patent for an augmented reality windshield, now perhaps your car could be more like your iPhone.
Patently Apple mentioned in its blog, a European patent application for a windshield display of an autonomous car which shows maps and road conditions. We already know Apple has been experimenting with the self driving cars but not much has been discussed about this project. Mashable correspondents asked Apple about the augmented reality experiment, have still got to hear back from them.
From the current developments taking place it looks we can soon be able to sit back and relax in our self driving cars as the information will be flashed on our windscreens. Though you need not get too excited about it as many companies file a lot of patent of which few reach the days light. The details of the augmented reality windshield look similar to those proposed on the ultra-high-speed Hyperloop. In the case of Hyperloop it was based on where you look and the scenery outside will flash on your screen.
It seems possible if all goes well we could perhaps have the display setup for a FaceTime video conversation with someone, maybe even somebody in another car. If the project has success perhaps one day we can simply use our car to communicate while we drive, why use a phone?
It is still early to predict what Apples AR display will look like, but lets hope it will be something soothing and distracting that will make you forget you’re in a car that’s driving itself.
