The iOS 11 has just been released and you would be excited to know the latest features included in it. The new operating system iOS 11 will appear on all iPhone X as well as many older devices. The new operating system has many tricks up its sleeves which you would love to try out. You will explore new possibilities using your iPhone’s like playing magic with augmented reality or adding a dock to your iPad interface.
To get on with it we need to own an iPhone 8 or an iPhone X or we can install the updates for our older devices when you are prompted to do so. As we already mentioned the iOS 11 runs on the new model, but also can be run on many older phones and tablets once we download the latest version onto those devices.
You can install the new operating system all Apple devices running iOS 10 or iPhone 5s or later, 5th generation iPad or later, iPad mini 2 or later or 6th generation iPod Touch or later. If you own older Apple devices like the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, or fourth generation 2012 iPad, you won’t be happy as they will not get updates for the new operating system iOS 11.

Customizing Control Center
The new iOS allows you customise the Control Centre, which has a cleaner look. To access the option on the panel go to Setting and then Control Center. You can select which buttons to hind and which button you wish to see. Apart from the earlier buttons there a few new ones added. Screen Recording option has been added which allows you to record the activity on your phone as a video. This comes in handy when u have to record a tutorial, troubleshoot problems or preserve your gaming triumphs and store it to the device.
More to do with Live Photos
In the earlier versions of the iOS 9 had the Live Photos, you were able to easily animate clips formed by recording short snippets of video before and after snapping a pic. But in case of iOS 11, it takes this feature to another level where you can customise it.
Once you open the Live Photo in the Photos app, swipe up and you will see new options for editing like
- Apply Loop: This option does is it applies a loop to the clip making it repeat over and over.
Bounce: This option makes the clip play forward and backward and forward again
- Long Exposure: This option compresses the whole stream into a single frame creating the effect of long exposure.
- These video processing resemble the Video effect you are used to seeing in clips posted on Instagram, in this case, we get them all offline without having to post them on Instagram.
Drive Safe Mode
You have been using the Do Not Disturb feature in iOS for a long time, now the iOS 11 has enhanced it. The new feature will automatically apply while you’re in your car.
Once you enter your car and start moving this new mode kicks in. It will mute notifications and respond to texts on your behalf so you can concentrate on the road. But you can also enable it manually or set your SMS auto-replies as per your choice in Setting under the Do Not Disturb options.
Have fun with augmented reality
The new iOS gives the user an enhanced augmented reality experience, all thanks to the latest ARKit platform allowing it to support a wide range of AR apps. Though third-party apps have a limited availability, you can test out at least one AR option right away. When you access the Maps section and head to a city that supports the Flyover feature and taps the Flyover button. This will give the feeling like you are an AR-powered Godzilla viewing from above even while you are simply walking around in your room
Siri play my favorite song
The iOs 11 version has got Siri all pimped up with it being offered with a more natural sounding voice and makes news and website recommendations based on your past activity. Apart from this Siri can now play some tunes for you. All you need to do is ask her to “Play something I like” and the digital assistant will take care of the rest. This feature works for users is a paid member of Apple Music club.
One hand Typing support
The new iOS 11 has a default keyboard which allows a one-handed mode, making it easy to type with one hand. In this case, the keyboard is compressed and you can shift it to the right or left of the screen. In order to active the One Hand mode, you need to press and hold the emoji button on the keyboard. Then slide your finger over to either left or right according to your preference. To go back to normal access the same pop-up menu again
iCloud gets a dedicated Files app
The earlier iCloud Drive feature gets an upgrade with the iOS 11 in the form of the dedicated Files app. The Files app makes it possible to search for all available folders ie you can browse through the iCloud, local storage of your device and also third-party storage accounts like Dropbox and Google Drive. All you need to do is tap on the Files icon.
App Store is redesigned
The App Store is all new and fresh with the arrival of the iOS 11, the layout is simple. Games have its own tab and the design is clean making it easier to access the latest amazing apps. In case of the Desktop version to the App Store inside the iTunes has been upgraded to match. You can notice the changes once you browse through the App Store on your phone or tablet.
Add apps to an iPad’s dock
After installing iOS 11 on an iPad you will get to see a new dock at the bottom of the screen. This looks similar to the dock on an Apple computer running macOS. This new dock allows you to add apps similar to the macOS.
You will need to tap and hold on the icon and drag it down to make it part of the dock.
In case you wish to launch these apps, tap its icon in the dock. To open it in windowed mode where one window appears on top of another, tap and drag the icon to the middle of the screen. Tap on the icon and then drag it to the left or right of the screen to view the app in Split View mode.
Drag-and-drop on an iPad
The latest Drag and Drop feature introduced with the iOS 11 works just as it sounds. In the Split View, mode tap and hold on some highlighted text, or an image, or a file and then drag it across to an app on the other side of the screen. Currently, you will be able to drag and drop all Apple apps, though once developers come up with added functionality other third-party apps will also be able to access the drag and drop feature.
Apple Pencil Takes Notes
The latest version has given some extra features to the Apple Pencil where now you don’t need to unlock your tablet to start taking searchable notes. Simply tap the Pencil on the lock screen. Another new feature called Instant Markup has also been introduced which allows you to instantly annotate a PDF or screenshot by tapping it with the Pencil. Last but not the least the Mail now supports in message drawings making it possible for you to incorporate cute doodles or informative notes and illustrations to your emails.
