Following the recent launch of the much awaited iPhone XS and XS Mas, users are reporting a bug. Users have reported the latest iPhone devices to have issues as they do not charge when plugged in.
There have been posts suggesting the issue on social media as well the Apple forum. The post-state that the devices won’t charge when plugged in when in sleep mode or the screen is off. Whereas in certain cases it works if the screen is turned on and the device is awake.
There has been no official statement released by Apple so far, this is yet another issue reported after the earlier issue where the new camera system in the \XS and XS Max was “beautifying” photos.
Some of the users claim the latest issue related to the charging issue is caused by a security update.
Apple had released a security update earlier this year to counter the potential hacking of Apple devices via USB. In the update, Apple introduced a feature which would disable the charging port on the iPhone devices when the phone remains idle for a period of time.
Apple introduced the feature to prevent anyone from hacking into a device with a passcode and accepted the fact that it can be the reason for the charging issues.
Apple official website says – “Starting with iOS 11.4.1, if you use USB accessories with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or if you connect your device to a Mac or PC, you might need to unlock your device for it to recognize and use the accessory. Your accessory then remains connected, even if your device is subsequently locked.”
The site further mentions if you don’t unlock your iOS devices initially or have not unlocked or connected it to USB accessory within the past hour, then your device will not communicate with the accessory or computer. While in some cases it might not charge.
Apple further adds you might also see an alert asking you to unlock your device to use accessories.”
Users have reported on the official Apple forum about the issue and suggested it can be fixed in some cases by going to the Settings app and enabling the USB Accessories feature in the Face ID and Passcode section.
