Recent rumors suggest there is a strong possibility of a dual SIM iPhone being released this year. The dual SIM feature might come along with the Plus model for select regions across the world. 9to5mac.com reported having found evidence of dual SIM support in the iOS 12 developer beta 5 version coming to the iPhone at least at the software level.
There have references to the “second SIM status” and “second SIM tray status” being found in a component of the system responsible for the generation of diagnostic reports. Along with this, there is yet another reference for a “dual sim device”.
Such reference is only indicating that iOS is getting updated to run on a future device which supports dual SIM cards as can be seen in the screenshot below.
Here you can clearly see references being made of a “second sim tray”, which indicates it would, in fact, have two physical SIM cards instead of a regular one and an e-SIM as the second. With the dual SIM options, users will get the liberty of using dual SIM in larger variants of iPhone. They can easily use two SIM from different operators without having to swap the SIM cards out. The phone will target the European and Asian users who frequently visit multiple countries.
According to a report published by Device Atlas in 2017, dual SIM phone was popular in countries like Nigeria, Brazil, and Egypt. Whereas they were uncommon in countries like the USA, Canada, and Australia.
