Earlier today while speaking to Engadget Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon told to expect at least two 5G flagship smartphones by next year. At the event, Oneplus co-founder Carl Pei joined him on stage. You might be thinking perhaps meet to talk about the launch date of OnePlus 6T, then your guess is wrong.
Instead, Mr. Pei just confirmed his company (OnePlus) will be releasing a 5G device next year. News reports suggest OnePlus will certainly be one of the first companies to come up with a 5G smartphone next year.
He also confirmed that his team has already conducted a 5G test at the Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August.
OnePlus is known to release only flagship smartphones with top-notch specs, chances are the 5G device to be launched will also be a similar smartphone with top class specs.
It seems likely the smartphone might show up in the first half of 2019 as suggested y Amon at the event earlier. The phone will get support for the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the further downsized QTM052 mmWave antenna module.
With OnePlus taking the leading position in the 5G race, it is now in the hands of the non-Qualcomm-backed smartphone brands to see how they can beat OnePlus in this race.
