When you decide to install apps outside the Play Store it becomes a bit confusing. You can follow the instruction to easily install apk files on your Android device. Simply follow the three steps we have mentioned below.
Install Apk Files On Your Android Device
Generally, we install most of the Android apps from the Google Play stores. At times some of the apps are available for download outside the google play store. Generally, you need to download an apk file from the outside source. You can later unpack this package to install the app on your device.
We will not advise you to do it as at times it’s dangerous at times to install apps via apk. Before you download such apk you need to be sure it’s from a trustworthy source. At times files like this from an unknown source can tend to carry malicious code in the package. This can be used to monitor your activity on your Android device or even worse. As long as it’s from a reliable source everything is ok and you can follow the steps we mentioned below.
1. Prepare your device
For security reasons, Android tries to protect you from installing third-party apps. By default, it only allows downloads from Google Play Store. In earlier versions of Android devices, you will need to Go to Settings>Security and Tap the switch next to ‘Unknown sources’. This will enable the device to allow downloading third-party apps or apk files.
Whereas in the case of new smartphones after the apk is downloaded from another source it will prompt a message. Tap the message that opens in Setting. Select the switch that says ‘Allow this source’. As you can see when you install the apk you will be guided to the Setting menu.
2. Download the apk file
You can download the apk file just as you would download any file via the web browser. Look for the apk file you want to download and tap it to start the download. You can get a warning for downloading. For example: “This type of file can cause damage to your device.” Accept this risk by tapping ‘ok’.
3. Install the apk file
Once the download is complete, you can immediately tap on it to open the apk file. If you have missed this notification, you will find the file in the app ‘Downloads’. This app can also be called ‘Files’. The file can also be found via the download folder of your web browser.
Locate the file, tap it. It is then possible that you first have to give your web browser access to install the unknown app. As explained in step 1, take over the switch with ‘Allow this source’. All you have to do then is click on ‘Install’ and the app will be installed. Before you click on ‘install’ it is wise to check at the top of the screen which accesses the app needs.
It may happen that the ‘install’ button remains gray and you can only tap ‘cancel’. No worries. This is probably due to an app that puts a layer over the other apps. Consider, for example, an app with a color filter. Disable this app and you can probably install it without problems.
