How To Transfer WhatsApp backup via WhatsApp or Google Drive
You no longer need to worry when it comes to switching over to your new smartphone as Google can easily backup all your important files. Also, there are many manufacturers who provide an option to transfer essential information quickly.
You will not want to risk losing data when it comes to the WhatsApp messenger either. Relax there are a couple of ways you can easily backup your WhatsApp and transfer it onto your new device. Follow the instructions given below to get it done.
Transfer via Google Drive backup
Google Drive can be used to transfer your backup in an easy way. For this you simply need to go to Settings > Chats> Chat Backup. Here you first create your backup. Tap “Back up to Google Drive” and select how often you want to save your data and to which Google user account you want to upload.
Transfer via Local Backup
In case you wish to save all your conversation history online or restore an older backup, you can choose to backup up locally. This backup can easily be transferred using a memory card or by copying to a folder from one device to another.
In case you are using a MicroSD you need to insert the card in your new device. While installing the new WhatsApp it will recognize the last backup of your messages automatically.
You can go to Setting>Call Settings > Backup to take backup of all your messages manually.
Transferring this backup can be a bit tricky in case you don’t have a microSD card. You will need to copy the backup as explained below and successfully transfer your messages onto the new phone.
After you take a fresh backup by going to ‘Settings> Chats> Chat backup‘. You need to copy the folder / WhatsApp / from your smartphone to your computer via a USB cable. This will transfer all photos and videos with you.
Later copy this folder onto your new smartphone. Install the WhatsApp and restore the last conversation history. Though this method only works when you use the same phone numbers.
By default the chat app automatically backups every morning and stores data in the WhatsApp folder on your Android device. In case you wish to recover messages on the same phone you can simply uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. When you reinstall you need to choose the last backup you want to restore.
It is important whenever you move around your backup you are using the same phone number on your new smartphone.
