Brain Corp a robotics company on Monday entered into a partnership with the Walmart. Brain Corp will introduce 360 of its floor scrubbing machines built on a BrainOS platform by the end of January 2019. If everything goes according to plans the machines will be able to keep the Walmart stores floor spotless without human interference.
Traditionally Walmart has had workers who manually operate the floor scrubbers and guide them down various aisles whenever it is required to clean the store.
All this will soon change, according to Brain Corp now the Walmart employee will simply need to ride each BrainOS equipped floor scrubber around the store just once in order to map the building layout. Once this is done the scrubber will be able to autonomously navigate using the sensors to keep an eye out for people and obstacles.
Walmart said its goal is to free employees from the tedious task of cleaning floors and focus on other parts of their jobs such as helping customers. This will surely not result in workers losing their jobs and help improve the Walmart experience for both customers and employees.
With the implementation of this program, there is also a possibility it might be a stepping stone in our step towards robots doing all the task of a Walmart worker. Walmart also has a large number of Americans as an employee than any other company so it remains to be seen how it will impact the American economy in the future.
