Jio Music and Saavn have merged to form a new app called JioSaavn. Reliance Industries Ltd successfully carried out the merger after buying Saavn for $104 million. The latest JioSaavn app will be available across all app stores which also includes the Jio App Store and Jio Phone. JioSaavn is currently valued at Rs 1 billion according to the company.
The app is also available on Google Play Store. JioSaavn comes with a lot of features such as lyrics, concerts, and live events, and video over the next few months. The app can be downloaded for free which will allow access to some of the basic service, though you may get to see a few ads popping up. For other advanced services, you will need to pay a monthly fee. All Jio users will get a 90 day free trial period to enjoy the JioSaavn Pro features.
The company is offering paid plans for 1 day, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. The monthly plan will cost you Rs 99 which is almost similar to the subscription charges of its competitors like Google Play, Hungama and Amazon Music. JioSaavn will charge you Rs 999 for a yearly plan.
JioSaavn is offered in 14 Indian languages which include Rajasthani, Haryanvi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, and Odia, among others. You can also access the JioSaavn via the website.
Saavn was always accessible via the web but it had a limitation as JioMusic would only allow access only to Jio phone number and could not be downloaded on another operator number.
JioSaavn will also continue to feature original programming and Artist Originals similar to Saavn.
Under this initiative, JioSaavn will feature podcasts such as ‘NoFilterNeha’ and ‘Kahaani Express with Neelesh Misra’. The Artist Original segment was started in the year 2017 and features tracks by South Asian artists and producers. This is how it’s presented on JioSaavn app.
JioSaavn has a strong workforce of 200 employees and operates in five locations ie California, New York, Bangalore, Gurgaon, and its headquarters in Mumbai. Currently, it is offering 40 million tracks in 15 languages and has over 900 label partnership which includes Universal, Sony, T-Series, Tips, YRF, Saregama, Eros and Warner Music.
