It surely has not gone unnoticed how Google has been focusing less and less on Android lately and more and more on Chrome. It’s strange how Google when it comes to the naming of its products the focus turns towards Chrome, but this new trend is striking. These are the four things that stand out.
1. Made by Google 2018: Android was missing.
During the entire Made by Google 2018 event, not a word was mentioned about Android. The whole event was buzzing with Google I/O event for software and the Made by Google event for hardware, but it is striking that Google did not mention a word about Android.
It seems the name Android was deliberately avoided even while announcing the Pixel 3 as the “best camera in a helpful phone” and the Pixel Slate can “download apps from the Play Store”.
2. Pixel Slate: Android is missing
The introduction of Pixel Slate, show Google is ready with Android tablets. The latest tablet features and operating system which converts as a laptop with a separate keyboard and runs on Chrome OS. The Pixel slate comes with an operating system which revolves around the Chrome OS and also has access to the Play Store.
3. Get Submerged using Chrome
Latest feature introduced in the Chrome app for Android which you can activate by going to the new tab in Chrome on Android. Type ‘chrome: //flags’, then search ‘Explore websites’ and choose ‘enable’. After you need to restart the Chrome and you will notice the difference immediately when you open a new tab.
The latest feature allows you to focus on exploring. You can view various categories and discover new websites. Apart from this articles are recommended for you to read. Presently Chrome for Android is used to explore something specific but this will change as Google wants us to spend more time using the app and sumerge using Chrome.
4. New Chromecast
The earlier version of Chromecast used to come with a clear Chrome logo on the device. The latest Chromecast you get to see only the Google logo. Which goes to show that Google is not a Chrome product, but a Google product that logically runs on Chrome. Along with this the other new hardware, such as the Google Home Hub, runs on software that comes from the Chrome team, and not on Android.
Why is it like this?
We are not sure why Google choose this but there are a number of possibilities. For example, Chrome is a larger platform than Android. Chrome is used on Android devices, iOS devices, PCs, Macs and so Chrome OS. Comparatively, Android is often associated with negativity, for example, due to the slow updates and Chrome’s reputation is pretty good. Though at times Chrome consumes a lot of RAM.
Google is also working on Fuchsia , a new operating system that will replace Android over time. Makes us think is the company already working on phasing out the name Android?
The curiosity level is high with us. Let us hear from you in the comments under this article.
